LOS ANGELES — On March 11th, Selkie unveiled a new limited-edition capsule collection and campaign inspired by the timeless works of French Impressionist Edgar Degas, celebrated for his intimate portrayals of ballet dancers in 19th century Paris.

The collection draws inspiration from Degas' most renowned works: "The Dance Class," "The Star," "The Blue Dancers," and his various sketches. Bringing these artistic visions to life are two distinguished dancers from the American Ballet Theatre—Principal dancer Isabella Boylston and soloist Madison Brown.

Creative Director and Selkie Founder Kimberley Gordon elaborates on the collection's vision:

Perfection, beauty, elegance, misogyny, sex work, secrets, and a woman’s perseverance through it all in the 19th century come to life in the form of the ballerina, captured in pastels by the revolutionary impressionist artist, Degas. This ironic portrayal of incandescent beauty and pain, where art imitates life imitates art takes center stage in our next capsule.

The collection features 39 distinctive styles, including boned tutus, ethereal tulle skirts, structured corsets, and flowing silk and cotton dresses—each piece a contemporary interpretation of classical ballet aesthetics. Selkie is now part of the Skimlinks network.
