How To Care For Winter Skin by Chelsea Goodyear

When the seasons begin to change, so does our skin.

It’s annoying, right? You just got your summer skin care routine on-point; your skin was glowing. Now the tan is fading and those cold windy days are making your skin feel tight and unhealthy. There's no need to stock up on face masks to cover up your face when you start having these symptoms. I have some super easy tips for you!

Why does this happen?

No matter your skin type, it will be affected by the change in temperature and atmosphere. Dry air will dry out your skin, making those fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable and ain’t nobody got time for that!

This winter, take your skin from pale Ice Queen to Snow Goddess!

Ok ok...let's talk about how to avoid winter skin!

STEP ONE: STAY HYDRATED

Drink that water! External hydration is best treated from the inside so stay hydrated! The shower is not the best place to try and soak in that H2O. Keep your showers shorter while using warm (not hot) water. The hot water, even though it feels great in these cold months, will dry out your skin.

STEP TWO: WASH FACE WITH LUKEWARM WATER

Next, since you will be taking shorter showers, I recommend washing your face with lukewarm water right after your shower. Check your facial cleansers for drying ingredients such as alcohol. Products with alcohol will quickly dry out your skin. I suggest a cleanser like the Senegence 3 in 1 cleanser. There are 4 different options to choose from based upon your particular skin type. Pat dry and grab your moisturizer! Moisturizing your face and body after you shower or wash your face is so important as your pores are open and ready to soak up any moisture they can.

Extra tip: pull back on using harsh acne treatments. Concentrate on keeping your skin clean and moisturized and any acne flare ups should calm down as a result.

STEP THREE: TRY TINTED MOISTURIZER

To makeup or to not makeup? You shouldn't have to skip your normal makeup routines just because your skin isn't liking the cooler dry weather! Try a tinted moisturizer as a base instead of a foundation. Go the extra mile by using a tinted moisturizer that has an SP. Even on those cloudy days, the UV rays will reach your skin. Use a stippling brush to apply your tinted moisturizer and pat it on instead of rubbing it into your skin.

If you are still experiencing extremely dry skin, consult your dermatologist for a more specific routine. Now go out and enjoy yourselves this winter!
