Cecilia Berkley is holistic aesthetician-facialist, a certified holistic therapist, herbalist and entrepreneur. She is the founder and owner of Cecilia Holistic Spa in Gilbert, Arizona and Corazon Organic Beauty Products.
Describe a difficult situation that impacted your business.
My difficult situation started when I was a young child growing up in Mexico. The odds were against me. I grew up in poverty, I was abused, and abandoned by my father. Growing up, I saw and went through things that no child should ever have to go through. Despite this, I dreamed and persevered. Because I did not have the opportunities others may have had growing up, I constantly struggled to get beyond my past. This was a giant hurdle for me when I first started my businesses. As much as I did not want to look back, those things from my past seemed to get in the way. I overcame language barriers, I had to overcome emotional pain and really embraced self reflection while never ever losing my passion for my dreams.
How are you overcoming this adversity?
We all have issues that can hold us back on a daily basis. We all have things from our past that may get in the way of us finding personal peace and prosperity. It is with a strong faith in God and a never ending passionate belief that if I could believe it I could achieve it no matter what the odds were against me and no matter what the obstacles were in front of me. I live this everyday, and although I have come to peace with my past, I have learned to focus on the good in my life and I am grateful for what I have and the lessons I have learned. I believe that nothing is impossible in my life.
What is your advice to other women experiencing similar adversity?
Although things may slow you down for me it is part of the journey. Embrace it, enjoy it, move with it one day at a time. Always be optimistic and empathetic towards others.
How has adversity changed how you see yourself, your clients, and the way you do business?
I am more empathetic toward others because of what I have been through and it is really the reason for what i do. I put my heart and soul into what I do, that is my calling.
